P1(e) Recce

Recce - is a military term that has been borrowed by media production in the United Kingdom, derived from "reconnoitre" (British English) "reconnoiter" (American English), the verb form of "reconnaissance". It is a pre-filming visit to a location to work out its suitability for shooting, including access to necessary facilities and assessment of any potential lighting or sound issues.

Locations

The scenes will be filmed in a number of locations surrounding Canterbury, Kent. Below I have indicated all the places I will be going to film my production. I have visited every location prior to filming and can confirm it will be a safe area to film. Although there will always be a risk as I am working near roads, I will take the appropriate precautions to avoid problems or issues. Taking care of equipment, actors and my own safety is the most important factor, therefore I will be alert throughout the day and ensure all equipment is safely positioned and when not needed will be supervised and in a protective bag.

Chestfield

For the car crash scene I will be filming in a col-de-sac estate in Chestfield, where there is little traffic but still very close to a road. The quiet street means that filming will be possible throughout the day with a very little chance of disruption or delay. This scene will involve using a car and therefore extra care must be take to ensure the safety of all of those on sight and the equipment used.

George Wilson's House - Whitstable

Filming at George Wilson's house for the opening scenes of the film production again involves working alongside a main road, however operating the crane safely on the driveway will involve no contact or disruption of the road running alongside the house. This means that the location is suitable for filming, however sound traffic coming from the cars will be disruptive to the production. Therefore the solution of this is to remove the sound of the clip and replacing with a voice over, rather than choosing another location to film. The area set aside from the road and therefore safety should not be an issue and there shouldn't be a risk of cars coming into the area.

Vernon Holme Junior School

I have selected the Kent College Junior School to film the flashback scene. This locations meant that we could select primary school actors to play the young version of the protagonists. The location is in a safe environment as it is protected by surrounding walls and there is no traffic in the area of filming. We plan to film on the football pitch near the playground in the school, and therefore this will be one large open space, giving a safe amount of room to film.
